Mineral Specimen #460 Pleochroic Uvite Tourmaline
Brumado. Bahia, Brazil
This Uvite specimen has rather blocky crystals which exhibit Pleochroism. The color of the crystals is an olive green color with hints of a reddish brown when viewing from one angle and a much brighter, purer green when viewed from another angle. (Note: there is some reflected flesh color in the pictures where the specimen is being held up). The crystals are a much lighter color than usually seen from Brumado. The crystals are quite gemmy but with a veil of what appear to be bubbles inside. The crystals are well formed, with sharp edges and corners. The largest two crystals are slighter over 1 cm across. The Uvite crystals are perched on Magnesite, which is the primary ore at this mine. The specimen is in excellent condition with virtually no damage.
