Mineral Specimen #4431    Sphalerite, Dolomite, Pyrite, Quartz

Mogul Mine, Silvermines Distrtic, County Tipperary, Ireland

Ex. H. R. McBroom, from 1982 trade with Sam Weller

Sphalerite specimens from this location are highly sought after and considered quite significant for Irish mineralogy. The Sphalerite crystals are gemmy and have a very high luster. The color of the Sphalerite is primarily a reddish brown with hints of green when viewed at certain angles (there appears to be a little bit of pleochorism present). The Sphalerite crystals are on a matrix composed of micro Pyrite crystals. There are also a few off white colored Dolomite crystals present as well as one, very thin, small Quartz crystal.

Condition: Fairly Good

Flaws: Other than the contact surface, there are two areas of damage present which do little to affect the appearance of the specimen.

8.4 x 4.8 x 2.7 cm
