Mineral Specimen #4385    Tourmaline, Lepidolite, Goshenite, Albite

Virgem da Lapa, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

On one side of this specimen, there is a grouping of green colored, parallel orientated, Tourmaline crystals partially embedded in Lepidolite. The Tourmaline crystals are all terminated and fairly gemmy, especially at the terminations. The termination of the largest crystal has three flat, beveled faces. Two of the other crystals are quite thin and have terminations which have only two flat, beveled faces. The other two crystals have terminations which are composed of multiple, very small, sub crystals which can best be observed under magnification. On the other side of the specimen, there is a single Tourmaline crystal which is darker in color, very gemmy at one end, but unfortunately, not terminated. The Lepidolite is composed of large layered crystals which are lavender in color in the interior and have light orange color on the exterior. Over much of the Lepidolite, there is a secondary growth of a multitude of smaller Lepidolite crystals which have a high. glassy luster with a sparkly appearance especially on the side of the specimen with the single Tourmaline crystal. There are two, glassy, transparent, etched crystals of Goshenite also present (see last photo). There is also a small grouping of small, white ALbite crystals.

Condition: Good

Flaws: As mentioned, the solitary Tourmaline crystal on one side of the specimen is not terminated. There is a bruised area on the Lepidolite to the right of the Tourmaline crystals. Also, the Albite and the area around it are incomplete.
