Mineral Specimen #4292    Copper Included in Agate in Basalt

Wolverine Mine #2 Shaft, Houghton Co., Michigan

Ex. A. E. Seaman Musuem, DM25684

Copper has replaced many of the bands in this small banded Agate which has filled an amygdule in basalt. These specimens are highly sought after. A number of them were recently found at the Centennial mine. This is an older specimen from the nearby Wolverine Mine. The two halves have been cut and polished. One note: because this is an older specimen, the Copper has tarnished. However, while writing this description, I happened to rub the polished surfaces and the Copper brightened considerably and is a bit more attractive than in the photos. The specimen is in good condition however, there is some visible, faint saw marks on the half with the basalt.
