Mineral Specimen #4170    Iridescent and White Calcite in Quartz Keokuk Geode

Both halves of a relatively large Quartz geode the interior of which is covered with rhombahedral, dark root beer, brown colored Calcite crystals which have iridescent surfaces. The iridescent is both blue/green and pink/violet color. Atop of the dark colored Calcite, is a secondary growth of white Calcite crystals some of which are quite a bit larger and of a completely different habit. Note: this specimen is being sold on consignment to the Noll estate; when shipped, it has been agreed it will insured, including international orders. The exact location is not known. Similar geodes have been found in the surrounding area which includes parts of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. The specimen is in very good condition except there is a cleaved surface on one of the large dark colored Calcite crystals in the larger geode half.
