Mineral Specimen #416 Wulfenite
Erupcion Mine, Ahumada, Sierra de Los Lamentos, Chihuahua, Mexico
The Wulfenite in this specimen is a good bright orange color. The crystals are very thick and blocky. Descloizite covers the entire specimen with the exception of the top portion of the Wulfenite crystals. The orange color of the Wulfenite contrasts nicely with the dark brown of the Descloizite. The Wulfenite and Descloizite were the primary ores at this mine. Entire trains composed of many car loads of this material would be shipped from the mine. Imagine the millions of specimens which were destroyed. Today, good specimens from the mine are hard to come by and are usually only available when a collection is dispersed. The specimen is in very good condition.
