Mineral Specimen #410 Chalcopyrite and Quartz on Hedenbergite
El Mochito Mine, El Mocho, Santa Barbara Department, Honduras
The Chalcopyrite crystals on this specimen are rather unusual. They are very large, with a gun metal gray tarnish and a serious of cracks. Despite the cracks, it is perfectly stable and solid. On the bottom of the specimen and the one place where a cleavage has chipped away, there is a light blue iridescence. On the bottom of the specimen, there is also massive Hedenbergite and some broken Andradite Garnet crystals. The last picture is of the bottom of the specimen.
