Mineral Specimen #398 Uvarovite Garnet
Saranovskii Mine , Saranovskaya Village, Gornozavodskii area, Permskaya Oblast', Middle Urals, Urals Region, Russia
This is a very large plate of Uvarovite Garnet. Such material was readily available in Tucson and Denver about 10 to 15 years ago when it was offered by the Russian dealers. The source seems to have been depleted since then. Very few pieces were this large. The crystals are quite small, most are under 1 mm and in some places there are no distinct crystals but a crust of the Uvarovite. The bottom and one side have been cut. The specimen is in good condition, although there does appear to be a crack in the middle of the specimen. This is very shallow and there is no danger of the specimen breaking.
