Mineral Specimen #3587    Creedite

Mina Navidad, Abasolo, Durango, Mexico

A mass of elongated Creedite crystals, the longest of which are 7 mm in length. The crystals have grown in radiating spherical clusters. At this location, Creedite has grown in clay filled voids. The Creedite crystals have a high glassy luster and most are transparent. The color ranges from colorless through shades of orange and reddish brown to black. The orange and reddish brown colors appear to be both included and on the surface and is presumably caused by iron oxides. In a few places where this coating is thicker, the luster is dull and the underlying transparency is obscured. The black is included and is presumably manganese oxide of some sort. The specimen is in good condition but there are a few broken crystals.
