Mineral Specimen #3564    Galena, Chalcopyrite

Bor Pit (Boron Pit), Dal'negorsk B deposit, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Far-Eastern Region, Russia

The Galena crystals on this specimen are flattened spinel twins. They have a good metallic luster but there are micro pits on the surface caused by rapid crystal formation. The specimen has been glued onto an acrylic base. At the base is an unusual Chalcopyrite crystal with a complex growth pattern. The Chalcopyrite has a golden color which is only visible when the specimen is held upside down. The specimen is in good condition however, there is a cleaved area missing from the back side of the large crysal at the top of the specimen. Other than that, there is only very minor wear on some of the edges.
