Mineral Specimen #2798 Purple Halite
Intrepid East Potash Mine, Carlsbad, Edy Co., New Mexico
A clear Halite cleavage with long thin striners of violet coloration which shades to indigo in a few places. When photographed, all of the coloration came out indigo blue and had to be modified. The color in the pictures is now quite realistic. The color is due to an excess of sodium ions. If melted in water, the color disappears. Please note: the specimen will be shipped within a closed zip lock plastic bag and should be stored in the same fashion to prevent the absoration of water from the atmosphere.
