Mineral Specimen #235    Calcite Hollow Hemisphere

Tsumeb, Namibia

A very unusual hollow hemisphere of Calcite crystals. The calcite crystals are in excellent condition. The Calcite has a very faint, pink tint to it and fluoresces light pink under short wave (I thought there was absolutely no damge to this specimen until I put it under the shortwave, a few edges were brighter - still almost impossible to see the wear under normal lighting). There are small, green micro crystals which have not been analyzed. Included is a closeup of the green crystals. Suggestions have been made these may be Duftite crystals which are often found at Tsumeb on Calcite. Another suggestion is the crystals may be Conichalcite. There appears to be an old painted label on the bottom of the specimen with the catalogue number gone. I have had the black on painted labels dissolve when I have soaked old mineral specimens (this happened with some of the Philadelphia Academy specimens).
