Mineral Specimen #1727    Watermelon Tourmaline

Mt. Mica, Paris, Oxford County, Maine, USA

July 10th, 1970

A section of a relatively large Tourmaline crystal frozen in massive Smoky Quartz. The cross section of the crystal is triangular. At one end, the interior is a reddish pink color with a rind of green. At the other end, the center is an attractive blue color. There are also a couple of other smaller Tourmaline crystals present. On the bottom of the specimen, there is still some attached styrofoam where the specimen was formerly attached to a base.
