Mineral Specimen #1320 Quartz on Hematite
Cleator Moor, West Cumberland Iron Field, North and Western Region (Cumberland), Cumbria, England
Ex. Ricardo Telles
Quartz crytals on a specular hematite matrix. This habit of Quartz from this location is oftern referred to as Beta Quartz but technically this is not beta Quartz. Some of the Quartz is clear with reddish Hematite inclusions. Some of the other Quartz crystals are clear on the surface with milky white phantoms in the interior. The specular Hematite is actually composed of very small bladed crystals which have a very high luster. Because of the luster and the many faces of the, the Hematite is very sparkly. A good part of the specimen is massive Hemaite with a portion of a vug with the Quartz and specular Hematite. This section of the specimen is in very good to excellent condition with no appreciable damage. The specimen stands upright without the use of a stand and displays well. It is interseting to get an English specimen formally in a Brazilian collection.
