Mineral Specimen #1278 Mordenite
Wolf Creek Pass, San Juan Mountains, Mineral Co., Colorado, USA
(Na2,Ca,K2)Al2Si10O24·7H2O
A mat of soft white fibers of this rare Zeolote lining the inside of a geode. Years ago, we drove to Wolf Creek Pass to collect this and other Zeolites. It turned out to be a very narrow road with sharp curves and very long, steep drop offs. With no place to park and no place to get down, we decided against collecting. Interestingly, I just got this specimen from a local collection and it had an old label of my own. After thinking about it for a while, I finally remembered getting it at the Denver show years ago from Dan Belsher.
