Mineral Specimen #1264 Barite on Quartz over Andradite Garnet and Sphalerite
El Mochito Mine, El Mocho, Santa Barbara Department, Honduras
The matrix of this specimen is composed of Andradite Garnet mixed with Sphalerite and a small amount of Pyrite. Covering the matrix is a layer of clear Quartz crystals which have a high luster. The garnet crystals are an orange/brown color. In places, the Quartz crystals are clear enough, to see the Garnet underneth. Scattered across the Quartz, are narrow blades and needle like crystals of white Barite. The specimen is in good condition although some of the Barite crystals are broken. The Quartz crystals are in very good condition, but there is a small section where there is no coverage.
