Mineral Specimen #1231    Kleinite and Eglestonite

McDermitt Mine, Opalite District, Humboldt Co., Nevada, USA

(Hg2N)(Cl,SO4)·nH2O and (Hg+2)3Cl3O(OH)

The Kleinite can found as small yellow orange rounded crystals and botryoidal masses. When exposed to light, it darkens to an orange/brown color and then reverts back when kept in the dark. Eglestonite darkens more and more with exposure to light. On this specimen, the Eglestonite is mostly a dark brown. There is also white Opal which fluoresces bright green under SW UV.
