Mineral Specimen #1222 Ajoite and Hematite included in Quartz
Messina mine, Messina District, Limpopo Province, South Africa
(K,Na)Cu7AlSi9O24(OH)6·3H2O
The Ajoite is concentrated in the tip of the termination of this Quartz crystal. The color is quite vibrant and contrasts nicely with the reddish brown included Hematite. The termination of the Quartz crystal is most unusual and quite complex being composed of numerous small, tabular crystals. In the middle section of the crystal are meandering, string like inclusions of Hematite. There is also a small patch of black dendritic material. The body of the crystal is subtly suffused with the blue/green of more included Ajoite. The specimen is in very good condition. The termination is complete and in very good condition with the exception of a couple of internal fractures.
