Mineral Specimen #1203    Selenite Crystals on Red Curved Satin Spar

Fort Wahington, Prince George's County, Maryland, USA

EX. Pad Woolgemott

This specimen is from a suburb of Washington DC located on the Potomac River almost across from Mt. Vernon. This is a very obscure location not listed in mindat. A google search did reveal some very similar specimens and even some photos. These specimens were apparently collected from clay along the bottom of the bluffs along the Potomac. The Selenite is arranged in a star like configuration. The gypsum is quite clear (more so than the other photos from google - so this is apparently a nice specimen for the location). The specimen is in fairly good condition; although, there is some minor bruising on the tips of a couple of the crystals.

5.4 x 3 x 3 cm
