Montreal Mine, Gogebic Range, Iron Co., Wisconsin, USA

The growth bands in this Goethite specimen stongly resemble wood. The specimen has very good luster and is in very good condition. The specimen is from a classic location. The Montreal Mine was opened in the late 1800s and closed in 1963. According to the website for the city of Montreal, it was the world's deepest Iron Mine at 4337 feet.
