Mineral Specimen #1147 Tourmaline, Quartz, Lepidolite, Albite and Fluorapatite
Pederneira Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil
A very nice association of Tourmaline, Quartz and other minerals. The Tourmaline is a dark green. The small gemmy Tourmaline crystal is terminated, the rest are not. There is a mass of parallel small crystals laying across the side near the top of one the Quartz crystals. These same small dark crystals can be seen sparesly scattered within the Quartz crystals at random angles. These appear black, but when held at a certain angle to the light have a reddish purple color. Some of the broken edges of the Tourmaline has a layer of very micro light blue Fluorapatite crystals on them. Similar blue micro crystals are present on some of the surfaces of the Quartz. There is also some dark colored Lepidolite on the end of one of the other Tourmalines. The Quartz is quite clear, in good condition with only minor chipping on the termination of one of the crystals. There are also small Alibte crystals and dark purple Lepidolite crystals. Despite the broken Tourmalines, the specimen is overall very aesthetically pleasing. It is most interesting when viewed up close and especially under magnification. There are some most interesting small assemblages and quite a variety to be observed.
