Mineral Specimen #1115    Ferberite on and Included in Quartz coated with two generations of Calcite

Panasqueira Mines, Panasqueira, Covilha, Castelo Branco District, Portugal

This is a fairly large Quartz crystal which has black shiney Ferberite both on its surface and in its interior. The inclusion of Ferberite in the Quartz has created a bit of stress and thus there are large internal fractures in the Quartz. Two sides of the Quartz crystal are coated with two layers of different generations of Calcite. The first, inner layer is clear and the second, outer layer is a light yellowish tan color. There are also a few small spheroids of Siderite in places on the Quartz..
