Mineral Specimen #1113    Hematite pseudomorph after Pyrite

Graves Mountain, Lincoln County, Georgia

Here is an unusual mineralogical odditiy collected be either John Medici or his son Jay (they collected these together in 2008). A layer of reddish Hematite encased and partially replaced some crude Pyrite crystals which later completely dissolved away. The interior is for the most part hollow; the original shape of the Pyrite is best seen on the exterior. There are some crude, small Hematite crystals on the surface. This specimem is in very good condition.

9.1 x 6 x 4.5 cm
