Mineral Specimen #1003 Stibiconite pseudomorph after Stibnite
Catorce, San Luis Potosi, Mexico
This is an example of a Stibnite crystal which has been completly replaced with Stibconite (an oxide of Antimony). This is a classic location for this type of specimen which has not produced any similar specimens for many years. The Stibconite is colored tan to pastel yellow. There is a coating of a gray to black material on some of the surface (some of which shows dendritic growth patterns). There is alos a coating of a bright yellow/orange material on the middle of one side. The specimen is broken in two places. The larger crystal has a section missing near the termination which broke after the Stibiconite had replaced the Stibnite. The smaller crystal's termination seems to have broken before the termination.
